Her journey was very shallow and self centred. What pleased me even more was that Madeleine Wickham takes a darker, deeper look into her characters than her Sophie Kinsella books offer.

However I found it was very slow — at one point, I picked it up and was surprised to find that I was half-way through, despite the plot not having picked up much at all. I loved the rather adult style of “The Gatecrasher” as the main nadeleine transforms her life over the course of a calm yet collected journey.
