This book is legend of course and for good reason it’s beautifully written and gives fantastic insight into the writers mind and eating disorder. She is a strong writer but in a very different way as compared unfortunately to Elizabeth Gilbert. She has her first experience with bulimia when she is nine years old.

Her doctors and her parents had given up on her; they were watching her die. Hornbacher in no way tried to sugarcoat her illness or attempt to make the reader feel sorry for her.

I can’t give it 5 stars –I can’t give it 1 star so I went for 3 but I’ll never forget the story. Bouncing around in Horbnacher collective conscience are several probably well-intended but extremely simplistic and misguided theories and “solutions” to this mystifying disease.
