I can see why The Brothers Karamazov is a classic. By the by there is spice of love triangles between characterswhere love and hate retaliate the want for lover. Feel how the word “Karamazovian” implants itself in you: Oh yeah, and Alyosha befriends a group of tough orphans, just to have them mess with him for the entire rest of the book; and there’s this priest who’s beloved by the locals, but who ironically turns a bunch of them to atheism after his death, because of his body having the audacity to start rotting, instead kaarmazovi staying perfectly preserved like the locals had been taught happen to saints; and then there’s the million other digressions karramazovi subplots buried in this doorstop of a manuscript, all of them helping to establish the now proud stereotype of the wrist-slashingly depressing dysfunctional-family thousand-page Russian epic which believe it or not is still only a third of the length Dostoyevsky originally envisioned — too bad he died only a few weeks after this first volume came out.

It’s a better read. Brothers Karamazov is an exceptionally tricky and intricate book. In a nutshell, D is forcing his religious beliefs down my throat and his characters represent “types” of people.

Where we meet the family and are told of all of the awful goings on of the father off-page and they are united in a monastery. That is indeed a leap of faith if one considers the countless number of moral atheists! The defense lawyer Fetyukovich is however an extremely interesting and logical character, I would argue the most interesting but of course his logic is never applied against faith, only for karamaazovi client’s innocence.

And the little boy who was poorly? One is passionate, one is intellectual and the third is spiritual. Who among the two represents the ‘intellectual’ dimension?

Justice – I felt that a big part of this book was about getting what you deserve. Is the insinuation that logic is only self-serving?

Braća Karamazovi by Fyodor Dostoyevsky (3 star ratings)

It is a spiritual drama of moral struggles concerning faith, doubt, reason and modern Russia. And although I have nothing but the works themselves to support this theory, I suspect that this is a case of something that happened as well to his American contemporary Henry James; that is, as men born at the beginning of Romanticism, their popular early novels helped set the tone for what mainstream literature even looked like in the mids, but by old age both had grown much more abstract and experimental, not just because they could now get away with it but also as a natural reflection of the Modernist times just around the centennial corner.

As Wikipedia tells it, The Brothers Karamazov is a passionate philosophical novel that explores deep into the ethical debates of God, free will and morality. Dostoevsky is pure bracaa.

This is a rich novel, containing everything about human life. Ivan, the intellectual, doesn’t have much of a role to play, but he seems never to be happy. It’s so interesting to see Dostoyevsky’s portrayal of this man and how his sons reacted to him.

Despite claims to the contrary voices are not equal. While this book was a good read once for me, the religious philosophy bits didn’t move me as they have others but reading about the bizarre Karamazov’s was like watching a train wreck occur, what a mesmerizing mess!

And these are only the three sons he will admit to in public; there’s also the sullen houseboy Pavel, who may or may not be Fyodor’s illegitimate son by way of local crazy woman “Stinking Lizaveta. The characters are as dismal karamazovk dysfunctional as any in Chekov’s plays, but talk and whine much, much, much more.

A book much more to be admired than actually read, critics of this novel seldomly deny its importance to literary history, but instead argue that it’s much more for scholars only, and that beaca of us are better off reading about the book than reading the book itself.

I think like this: This karwmazovi my second time reading this novel. It captures the human soul. At this point I was ready to give this one a 1 star rating.

Braća Karamazovi (The Brothers Karamazov #1-2)

It is considered a masterpiece, and it really is, but I somehow got weary of the meticulous details and thereby cared less about the characters than I initually did.

It is interesting that he is the one that gets put on trial since he’s not really representing one side or the other but the amalgamation of all. It’s also an exceptional pain in the ass. This is a philosophical novel, not packed with a lot of action. And as I said before, to me Dostoevsky often digressed from that genre, although I suppose you could call it a more modern take on the novel.

The plot revolves around the murder of perhaps one of the most despicable characters ever created, Fyodor Pavlovich Karamazov, the father of the Karamazov brothers.

Eminent literary critic Mikhail Bakhtin, describes the book as polyphonic, supposedly there is no ‘single vision’, and conflicting views and characters develop independently.
