The Stench of Honolulu: A Tropical Adventure by Jack Handey
I laughed outloud a lot. Handey weds ludicrous to conceivable. Handey writes the way caricature artists draw, with whimsy and blithe exaggeration. Others, though, have usurped the comedic memoir for shameless self-promotion. I hope people in Hawaii and Honolulu are not offended by the book. For me, the best humor plays off of mythical archetypes—the cowboy, the outer-space alien, the James Bond spy.
They have a taste for adventure, so they pay a visit to a relic of bygone days-a travel agent-and discover an old treasure map. It can be very meta at times and may not be for everybody.
